BTL organized, in partnership with startup Insight plus, the “Journée Bureaux de change” held on December 7, 2022 at its head office.

Over 120 representatives of bureaux de change from all over Tunisia took part in the event, which was attended by Mr Hatem Zaara, General Manager of the bank, Mr Bechir Trabelsi, President of Forex Club Tunisie and General Manager of reserves and market management at the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT), Mr Adel Jenni, General Manager of Insight plus, Mr Mejdi Chhabouni, Manager of Axley bankers, as well as BTL managers and managers of the Insight plus startup.

The meeting was an opportunity to present the new trading platform to various users.

For its part, BTL informed the participants that it had prepared the necessary logistics as part of its “CHANGE” transformation program to ensure and fluidify the logistical side of this business.

Mr. Bechir Trabelsi’s speech placed this activity in its proper context, reminding those present of the importance and impact of monetary policy and the exchange rate in determining the market value of the Tunisian dinar, and emphasizing the importance of bureaux de change and the need to reflect on the evolution of their business model in a few years’ time.

A number of other topics were also discussed, including the following:

  • How to reconcile bureaux de change with the irreversible process of decaching
  • BTL’s “Smart delevery system”, a major step towards progressive decaching
  • The acceptance of currencies from neighboring countries as exchange currencies at bureaux and their profound impact on this activity
  • The possibility of integrating this activity into the executive and extended bureau of the Forex club de Tunisie.
  • Finally, the obvious relationship to be established with payment institutions.

The debate was very lively, and a summary of all the proposals made to improve the entire value chain will shortly be presented to the BCT.

Lastly, the BTL promised to organize the same meeting on the same date, with the aim of further consolidating the achievements of this foreign currency-generating activity.
